Toyota Mirai BecomeThe Most Environmentally Friendly Police Car

If the Dubai police show off a fleet of supercars, another story with the London metropolitan police. For the first time, the Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) was turned into a police car. Unit used is none other than Toyota Mirai which is the best selling hydrogen car today. London police are preparing 11 Mirai fleets to serve as patrol cars and operational cars.

According to Toyota, the first batch of Mirai has been delivered. All equipped with various equipment to cope with criminal problems. Most visible, of course, typical body style of London police complete with rotator lights, others are left plain for police operations. Toyota Mirai choice, so part of the plan of clean air proclaimed Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. In addition, it is also the ambition of the Metropolitan Police Service that wants to provide the world's largest zero-fuel fuel cell fleet.

Indeed FCV is an electric car. But unlike most electric cars that use battery energy, electric motors in FCV receive energy from a fuel cell that converts hydrogen gas into electricity. The fuel cell process does not produce carbon dioxide emissions, nitrogen monoxide or other harmful particles that come out of the exhaust hole. In fact, the results come out only water, from a combination of hydrogen molecules with oxygen.

The Mirai police car, has access to five hydrogen filling stations scattered across London. The number will continue to grow as the more familiar Mirai as a solution in the development of alternative energy. Hydrogen filling process takes the same time as filling gasoline or diesel.

Mirai cruising range reaches 483 km from the tank in full state.

That number is the same as a conventional car, can decrease when Mirai digeber to pursue criminals. It should be enough to go around London all day, but be an obstacle if you have to do high-speed pursuit. Acceleration 0-100 km / h takes 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 178 km / h, certainly difficult to pursue criminals who use sports cars.

Apparently that's not the main priority of London police. Commander Neil Jerome said, "The police are committed to creating the environmentally friendly service possible and the greatest part of us, providing an environmentally friendly fleet. Since late 2015 we have been actively looking for ways to hybridize and electrify our fleets while looking for new technologies like hydrogen. "They also expressed the ambition of providing 550 environmentally friendly vehicles by 2020.

This is closely related to the higher death rates caused by air pollution in densely populated cities. Environmental organizations argue that pedestrians and cyclists are most affected by the effects. Another fact, air pollution causes 40,000 deaths per year in the United Kingdom. The diesel car holds the greatest role, as it produces toxic nitrogen monoxide and other harmful particles, resulting in respiratory diseases and heart attacks.
